I remember a youth of bare feet. Indeed, I rarely wore shoes when I was a child.
I don't recall the distinct lack of mobility caused by bare feet that I experience nowadays. Even on finished concrete I am hard pressed to walk quickly and find myself compelled to put on shoes and socks.
