National Welsh Rarebit Day 2021

    welsh rarebit

We have another Welsh Rarebit Day.

Each September 3rd it's time for a taste of the savory cheese dish.

The dish name translates to 'welsh rabbit' although there is no game in it which is good for me personally because rodents such as hares and rabbits are something I decline to eat.

Mom used to fix us toast with the hot cheese poured over it and it was something I enjoyed.

I personally thought it was better with the more crusty types of French and Italian breads rather than the plain white bread we used to eat more often.

Welsh Rarebit makes a wonderful fondue.

In Western Europe, taverns serve it with ale but I personally don't like to have alcoholic drinks with my food either.

Regardless, I enjoy the dish on those rare occasions it turns up on the menu and will celebrate the day for that reason alone.

Happy National Welsh Rarebit Day to you !
