National Toothache Day 2023

I'll likely live to regret this braggadocio ... but I've never had a toothache in my lifetime.

I've had a few momentary twinges here and there mostly attributed to "root sensitivity" but nothing near the hours long deep pain I've witnessed others suffer.

When I was in the Navy the dental technicians at Great Lakes marvelled at my teeth and asked me if I was from Texas.

Later, I had my "wisdom teeth" extracted while on active duty in Charleston with the four teeth being pulled inside 6 minutes.

There was no pain or swelling nor other issues — and I ate pizza that night.

I attribute my dental health to superior dental care during my lifetime.

My parents always took us for flouride treatments and we were daily tooth brushers. Later in my life I began debriding with hydrogen peroxide and this eliminated what was characterized as a 'gum infection' by one of my dentists.

AKA odontalgia, a toothache is that label describing an ache and pain in or near a tooth.

Today is National Toothache Day.

It happens on February 9th and though I don't view it as a celebration per se it is more a vehicle for the importance of sound dental hygiene.

The difficulties of toothache are many and varied. It is better to avoid as many of them as feasible.

You do this by taking care of those chompers and not participating in foolhardy lapse of good judgement when it comes to self maintenance.
