It is observed each year on the 31st of August in recognition of the history, culture, and natural beauty of the State.
I would just as soon not make a big deal out of where I live. Being from a place does not necessarily mean you "like it" or "identify with it" or "wish to remain".
South Carolina fits into my "now". It may never be my "forever" home. The United States is a large place with many destinations and localities available.
