I'm technically a "senior citzen" being presently 71 years old but I don't feel that old and as such I decline to accept the classification.
Today is National Senior Citizens Day.
It goes down each August 21 in recognition of the achievements and contributions older adults of the species.
It also raises awareness about issues like health and elder care.
The day was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 being established on August 19, 1988.
It's focus are those generational activities which meld us together as a society supporting elder. independence, health, and dignity.
The utilization of local nursing homes, senior centers, or veterans homes add to the pomp of the day and are a good place to being those festivities of observance. However, you should also remember that there are those of us who will not be bothered with the entirety of the classification and should be avoided lest you get throttled by some senior who is "older than they feel".
Don't make me beat you like I own you young whippersnapper.
