Others too. The road trip is a right of passage for some of us. For others it's a way of life.
Today is National Road Trip Day. It happens on the Friday before Memorial Day here in the United States.
All it takes is a maintained vehicle, a will to take in a little Americana, and of course cash for food and gas.
National Road Trip Day became an official holiday in 2019 under the auspices of Pilot Flying J who have a lot of stations here in the deep South.
The concept reminds me of a road trip movie called Fandango I saw back in high school. Fandango was written and directed by Kevin Reynolds and Starred Kevin Costner, Judd Nelson, Sam Robards, and the late Glenne Headly.
It's about five college friends from the U of Texas cavorting around 1971. I was 16 years old at the time. The thought of a road trip was naturally appealing.
The plot entails a road trip across the Mexican border prior to embarking on the uncertainty of the futures they all face. It has it's fun and poignant moments and I've always remembered it due to it's position in my personal evolution.
