National Retinol Day 2024

Effaclar adaptalene gel

    Differin adaptalene gel
Back in the 1970s there was Retin A, a retinol (vitamin A) product I was given for acne vulgaris which was a liquid. It was a derivative of retinoic acid which was an earlier iteration in it's evolution.

Tretinoin, was originally a topical medication for skin disorders in 1958 and it gave rise to the more modern compounds we use presently.

The actual pharmaceutical preparation Retinol was found in 1909 then isolated in 1931 and finally synthesized in 1947 initially. Retin A was found to have other beneficial effects which weren't always documented until later in their evolution. It is helpful for problematic skin conditions such as those accompanying acne but it also does so much more.

Earlier forms caused skin irritation and sensitivity and nowadays, I use a similar product called Adaptalene gel which is also a vitamin A derivative. I have two brands I normally buy depending on availability. They too can be initially sensitizing and irritating. I found all that passed in due time and it has improved my skin after that period.

Today is National Retinol Day.

Since October 25, 2021 it is held each November 7 under the asupices of RoC Skincare.

These products change the way the skin grows and prevent a lot of aging symptomatology which is likely why every one tells me I appear younger than I am.

So if you have problematic skin the Retinol derivatives such as adaptalene gel may help you as much as it's helped me.

It won't hurt to try them as long as you can weather those possible initial side effects which are far milder than those posessed by other topicals on the market today. You may not experience any sensitivity or irritation caused reddening.

Happy National Retinol Day to you.
