I once fancied myself an alligator owner. Yes, I thought I was going to be a wrangler of the large reptiles and stick my thumb in their butt holes to piss them off if they tried to become unmanageable.

Luckily, my fantasy never evolved beyond South Park, Cartman's fool antics, and those things that might have been otherwise.

Today we have another National Pet Day.

It is observed on April 11 each year to honor the joy and companionship that pets bring to our lives and to promote pet adoption from shelters.

It encourages people to show extra love to their pets and raise awareness about the many animals in need of homes.

So get out there and rescue that alligator and take him home to be pampered the rest of his life.
