National Lipid Day concerns each May 10 internationally in the name of those suffering from dyslipidemia. Lipid is another term for fat. The body stores fat as energy reserves. Excess fat in the body may lead to obesity and other health problems.
The day began under the auspices of Kunjan Singh and Sanjay Suri on behalf of Zydus Cadila aka Zydus Lifesciences Limited to spread awareness about the disease. May 10 was chosen as the day on which National Lipid Day is to be observed annually.

Most dyslipidemias are hyperlipidemias, which means the presence of too much rather than too little however the affectation does go both ways on the scale of abnormality.
