National Joyce Day 2023

Joyce
My mother has gone by a number of her names. She has been called her formal birth name. She has also been called various parts of that name in addition to some other nicknames which are variants on her given name. I call her Mom, Mama, Momsy, Mammy, and various other things depending on the situation.

My favorite term for her is Mammy. It's simply a personal choice based on my knowledge of the name and I will continue to use it when I feel it's appropriate ...

Typically informal private moments.

Today is National Joyce Day. It happens annually on the 5th of June.

It is written that Joyce first appears on the female naming charts in 1882.

Surprisingly, Joyce is also a masculine name having began it's existence thusly according to the powers that be. It was on the masculine naming charts for some 30 years.

Conventional wisdom holds that the name Joyce is mainly a female name here in the US. It is also somewhat popular but it's heyday was in the past. The name has evolved over the centuries into that which we know and love today. I love my mammy with all my heart. Her name is Joyce. This is her day.
