Early on in my life I was quite the tea drinker. I favored sweet tea made by my Mama. I think everybody likes their mother's tea the best and hers was mine.
I recall Grandma Ida's version made with loose tea in her stainless steel tea brewing pot. She would always add a little baking soda to make it less acidic at the end of brewing..
I would also sit and drink her tea with meals but she typically had several choices of drink ready to go including lemonade and soft drinks. My grandma Ida was a most gracious host and loved me dearly.
I don't know when it was that I began gravitating towards other beverages, but I think it was right about my enlistment and I'm afraid that I never fell back into my tea guzzling days of yore.
Of course, I do drink unsweetened iced tea today in an effort to be both well hydrated and metabolically conscious.
Today is National Iced Tea Day which comes each June 10.
It's a day to enjoy a tall glass of your favorite iced tea, be it sweetened or unsweetened.
Iced tea has been a favorite in the United States beginning in 1904 at the St Louis World’s Fair.
It seems that the weather was unspeakably hot and glasses of iced tea for sold for a cold refreshment. The rest, as they say is history.
