National Fitness Day 2023

Eric Esch
When I was younger I was an obese child well before it became a national tragedy. When I began thinking of a navy enlistment I began exercising in order to drop some of the useless fat and other food residues that my cohorts in school used to love to bring to my attention so often.

I began running the 3 mile "block" from my parents home to Nantucket then down Jim Williamson Sr Road then back up Hollow Creek Road to their place. Then I went to bootcamp and really got run through the ringer so to speak.

When I returned from bootcamp after being recycled twice and thrown in the brig once I was quite the slender manchild.

I pursued fitness during my early adulthood and gained a mesomorphic configuration which I maintained for a long time.

Then I backslided to my old Kentucky Fried Chicken and Marlboro addictions and lost the bulk of those gains and the increased aerobic capacity as well.

Today is National Fitness Day. Here it is celebrated on the first Saturday of May. This year the day falls on May 6.

The day was founded one coach Kim Bielak in 2017 in the name of fitness and the human body.

So, though I am now old and decrepit I remember those glory years of my youth. I keep saying I'm going to get out there and walk but that hasn't happend either.

Regardless I hope you are trim and fit as a fiddle. I'll try to muddle on by.

Happy National Fitness Day to you !
