I have allowed momentary lapses in civility when it comes to my family.
In those times when I should have supported my family members I'm afraid I simply let them down, due to exhaustion, exasperation, perhaps complacency ...
I lived to suffer regrets for each and every episode.
I am also not one to overlook evil in my family just because the culprets happen to be my kin.
Just because you're a blood relatives doesn't mean you can be the scathing thieving underhanded low life you are and not get called on it.
So I suppose family civility is all relative to just how worthy for civility a family member might be.
Today is National Family Civility Day.
It goes down each November 15 annually and calls for the celebration families who are civil to and support each other.
No one has ever mentioned the degree to which one must go to be civil to a selfish and self promoting individual who simply does not warrant any modicum of civil treatment whatsoever.
I suppose that Dr Rebecca Harper of the Family Civility Institute didn't take that into consideration when she instituted National Family Civility Day in 2019.
Perhaps we are supposed to overlook all transgressions of comportment in the name of family. Nice try.
Yes, though family gives us a sense of identity and makes our lives meaningful I'm afraid there are ALWAYS exception to the rule.
So happy National Family Civility Day and I hope your family lacks some of the issues with which I must contend.
