National Dive Bar Day 2026

I knew what a "dive" was in restaurants and I did a lot of diving in the Florida keys as a youngster but "dive bar" was pretty much lost on me.
Today is National Dive Bar Day.
It is observed every year on July 7 and celebrates the unique charm, character, and community spirit of neighborhood dive bars. The date also pays homage to Seagram's Seven Crown, which is a blended whiskey, and 7 Up the lemon and lime soft drink which are a mix of a cocktail supposedly developed at a dive bar.
Unlike upscale cocktail lounges or luxury bars, dive bars are known for their relaxed atmosphere, affordable drinks, welcoming regulars, and authentic local character.
We have a couple of them in the immediate area. My drinking pretty much ended 30 years back so I really don't have a "need" for one.
I view them as a nice touch of Americana and should I want to have a drink I may indulge in the future. No such opportunity has arisen in the recent past, however.
