National Catfish Day 2026

channel catfish
Today is National Catfish Day. It has been observed each June 25th since 1987 under the auspices of President Ronald Reagan and Proclamation 5672 following a Joint Resolution by Congress in support of domestic catfish farmers. It highlights the growth and value of US farm-raised catfish, particularly in the Southern states like Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

The observance is so substantial in the agriculture sector that Congress later designated August as National Catfish Month. The channel catfish and blue catfish are the most commonly consumed farm species in the United States. So if you're like me you enjoy a nice mess of catfish every so often.

Happy National Catfish Day to you.
