I used to have a few "friends" and of those a couple or so I viewed as "best" friends.
Far be it from me to reject the friendship of another as I wiled away my social time in the presence of these clods until I heard a few sound recordings of some of them speaking harshly of me.
They were then surprised to find I no longer sought them out as company and were loud and persistent in their inquiries as to why.
I never revealed my issues. I stopped telling all I know as a function of adulthood. I prefer it as well.
So today we have National Best Friends Day.
It is an annual, unofficial holiday celebrated each June 8. It is a dedicated time to honor the closest friendships in your life, whether those are childhood bonds or newly made connections.
The origins of this day are in 1935 when the US Congress proposed a dedicated day to honor close friends. It's a little too oushie gooshie for my tastes thank you. June 8 was specifically chosen because the early summer weather in most parts of the country makes it ideal for outdoor celebrations.
So if you have true friends and among those ones you consider "best" today is your day. I have such relationships and I am headed to fetch a bottle of single malt scotch whiskey for the absolute best of my friends !
