National Aviation Day 2026

Today is National Aviation Day.
It is observed annually on August 19 since 1939 under the auspices of President Franklin D Roosevelt.
The date coincides with the birthday of aviation pioneer Orville Wright who with his brother Wilbur invented the world's first successful motorized airplane.
US Code 36 US Code ยง 118 allows sitting US presidents to officially proclaim the day and includes the ability to request flags to be displayed on federal buildings.
So if you have flying around in your list of wants today is one of those days designed for you.
Me, I prefer to keep my feet on the ground and hopefully avoid falling thousands of feet through the air to the ground.
