National Anthem Day 2022

March 3rd brings us National Anthem Day and commemorates those songs nations have adopted to represent their national identity internationally .

“The Star-Spangled Banner” is the song chosen by the United States to represent our identity.

United States Flag

The lyrics were from a poem written by Francis Scott Key and the tune is derived from "The Anacreontic Song" written by John Stafford Smith.

Together, they became "The Star-Spangled Banner" following the War of 1812. In 1931 it was adopted as the national anthem of the United States of America.

The Star Spangled Banner

O say, can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail'd
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watch'd
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?
