Today is Name Your PC Day. It is observed annually each November 20. The day seeks to anthropromorphize the machine into some ersatz "friend" when it is more of a tool and a means to an end.

Seeing how I predate the PC in the field of computers by a number of years I never had the impetus to get all cutesy cutesy with the thing upon which I was working at the moment. There was always some serious business of installation, breakfix repair, or configuration either at hand or to be considered.

Bear in mind that my machines all have a name assigned by me. That is the NetBIOS name which is mostly a requirement in broadcast networking and any windoze mess you may utilize having their WINS crap.
Nowadays it's not quite so sigificant as it was early on — but remains a parameter of operations nonetheless.
