Memorial Day is particularly somber for me these days. This is primarily due to it's proximity to my late stepfather's birthday which follows the next day ...
As I mark the day I try to maintain the perspective of service and honor as it relates to the military.
Being both a 'Navy brat' as well as a veteran of the Navy, and the son of a highly skilled and decorated Navy veteran as well as the stepson of a decorated Air Force veteran I take pause to remember those who passed both as the consequence of their military duty — as well as those who served honorably through the ranks for long periods during their lifetimes.
These are the heroes who enabled me to grow up free.
