One of those healthy foods I have always been able to go for are medjool dates.
I've been eating them since the early 1980s in Los Angeles and can be seen picking up a package of them periodically to this day.
Though they have an overall appearance shockingly reminiscent of a cockroach, the flavor is divine. If I could bake I'd use them in cooking. As it stands I can sit there and eat one after another and end up with a small collection of pits.
I once religiously saved those pits in an effort to grow these fruit palms locally and perhaps corner the market to no avail. Now I just toss them.
These fruits are native to Morocco and grow on the date palm tree Phoenix dactylifera.
They now grow in warm regions of the United States, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.
They are sold dried — but not dehydrated they are a soft and sticky food which condense and grow sweeter as they continue to dry over time.
Medjool Date Day happens on February 4 annually.
It highlights the nutritional benefits of the Medjool dates.
They remain one of the healthiest snacks on the market nowadays.
They are also great for providing energy and are of great assistance for those who are trying to consume low glycemic index sugars ... like me.
Happy Medjool Date Day !
