Luther Vandross was one of those eclectic soul fusion singers who did a lot of backup work prior to becoming a headliner.
I used to listen to his music for inspiration back when I had chops and did a little singing myself. He sold in excess of 35 million records internationally won 8 grammys.
He was in demand as a backup vocalist during the entirety of his career.
I recalled noticing his absence from those venues I used to follow as the result of my interest in music which has long since passed.
It seems that he had a lot of health problems of which I was unaware until that time I saw him on television appearing about half the weight he was when last I saw him.
He seemed happy and looking forward to future only to die shortly thereafter.
He suffered from diabetes and hypertension which resulted in a stroke and finally a fatal heart attack.
I recall that gloom I felt upon his passing because I thought he really had a lot more to offer the world and I had been a big fan of his music for a long time up until his death.
