I used to think I had quite the sense of humor. I thought I was funny. I thought others to be funny. I would spend a significant portion of my day laughing and being happy.
Then the workaday world took hold of me and my sense of humor waned. Some times I laugh as in the old days. Most of the time I maintain a more serious comportment as though nothing has ever struck me as being funny.
In my defense I also abandoned that goofy nature cultivated by my early years watching copious three stooges and my subsequent channeling of Jerome Lester Horwitz aka Curly Howard — despite being referred to as 'retarded' by some of my Aragona Elementary classmates older brothers for my efforts.
I have read where laughing aids in relaxation and stress reduction. It is also said to impart health and social benefits.
I have read accounts of laughter reducing the blood pressure, increasing immunity response and improving the heart rate. I have also read that it can aid in sleep and burn calories.
Today is Lets Laugh Day. While I don't get out there and guffaw as I once did frequently in my youth I certainly won't hold it against you if you participate in a little raucous laughter today — or any other day as well.
