Labor Day 2026

    Happy Labor Day
In the late 19th century during the Industrial Revolution, many Americans worked 12 hour days in unsafe conditions just to survive.

Today is Labor Day.

After extended labor unrest and strikes such as the Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland signed legislation making Labor Day a legal national holiday in 1894.

The day is meant to recognize the hard work and dedication resulting in vital contributions working people have made to the strength and prosperity of the United States.

It commemorates the 8 hour work day, having weekends off, safer working conditions, and paid leave.

Today Labor Day is celebrated with parades, barbecues, and various community events.

The long weekend also serves as an unofficial marker for the end of summer.

It also implies the start of the school year in some jurisdictions.
