John Cameron Swayze on the televisions of my childhood

John Cameron Swayze
When I was a kid there was a personality named John Cameron Swayze all over my early childhood television experience.

He was a news commentator and appeared on the various game shows of the time both predating me and well into my adulthood.

He would do commercial spots hawking various products such as the Timex watch which has indelibly became engrained in my memory due to the pervasive airing of these adverts and the popularity of that particular product.

Product spokesmanship was likely his main claim to fame overall.

Newsreel voiceovers and other technology which predate those modern mass communication efforts were a hallmark by which he became known.

Ironically, he became supplanted by Chet Huntley and David Brinkly in their nightly news program — which was merely a sign of the times.

He did various cameo appearances as an actor in the cinematic entertainment endeavors of that era.

He passed in Sarasota, Florida, on August 15, 1995 at the ripe old age of 89 and was survived by his widow, children, grandchildren, and great granchildren.

There are those who have led significantly less purposeful and satisfying existences upon the earth.
