Some of his performances have been really memorable for me personally. Some of his extracurricular antics have been borderline 'wierd' in my mind ...
But I have grown to attribute these to that schtick sometimes displayed in public as publicity stunts and to generate press.
In his earlier work he was billed as 'Leaf Phoenix.
This is in keeping with those names imparted to him and his siblings by his parents who struck me as rather unconventional to the point of being eccentric.
His late brother River Phoenix was a bright star on the rise who died tragically.
Two of my most favorite portrayals include the evil Commodus from the film Gladiator in 2000 as well as the soft spoken attentive uncle Merril Hess in Mel Gibson's Signs in 2002.
I have yet to see him play Joker which is said to be quite the "over the top" character as well.
Regardless, I look forward to more of his work and today is his birthday. Happy birthday to you !
