James Marshall Hendrix was known professionally as Jimi Hendrix.
He was a performer from the United States who delved into virtuoso electric guitar, vocals, and and song writing.
His career spanned from 1962 through his untimely death in 1970.
He was born on November 27, 1942 and died from a drug overdose on September 18, 1970.
At that time I was 15 years old.
Had he not died at 27 years old he would have been 80 today. As it stands he is in that group of artists known as "27 Forever" which includes Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison of The Doors.
He lived fast, died young, and left his profound mark on the music industry — becoming one of the biggest influences on the scene of electric guitar and lyrics.
Anyway, though I was late in my appreciation of his music, he had a number of pieces I really enjoyed over the years and I thought it appropriate to speak to his existence on the planet.
