International Plant Appreciation Day 2026

I never acquired the green thumb of both my grandmothers and my father in particular. It is amazing to realize the great masses of greenery they were able to cultivate with little to no apparent effort and I am left stupefied by my inherent lack of skill.

Dr Bill Robinson once told me to my face that I was of inferior genetics. Perhaps this is part of that manifestation.

Today is International Plant Appreciation Day.

It is observed each April 13 and is meant to be a vehicle to promote the beauty, diversity, and vital importance of plants. Particularly from a standpoint of providing oxygen, improving air quality, and supporting mental health.

International Plant Appreciation Day is NOT National Houseplant Appreciation Day, which occurs on January 10.

Happy International Plant Appreciation Day and I hope your thumb is as green as emeralds.
