Idi Amin

    Idi Amin Dada
Idi Amin Dada Oumee
c 1925 – 16 August 2003
When I was a kid I was familiar with Idi Amin Dada.

I recall him speaking to a news journalist regarding the his enjoyment of cannibalism stating that human flesh is 'very sweet' and I became totally repulsed at him in that instant.

His military history started in the British Colonial Army as a cook.

This brutal despot was the self ascribed "president" of Uganda who instigated a coup seizing power from Milton Obote who was in the process of having him arrested for misappropriation of army funds.

His reign of terror lasted from from 1971 through 1979 where he was known as the "Butcher of Uganda".

His presidency is marked by extensive human rights abuses, total economic mismanagement, widespread political repression, genocide of the elite, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, all manner of corruption.

It is estimated that between 100,000 and 500,000 people were killed while oppressed under his regime.

His preferred personal pronoun was Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Alhaji Dr Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, CBE and he died in exile from his country with the world knowing exactly who and what he was.

He left his country a legacy of exaggerated militarism and likely a large population of cruel and evil cannibals such as himself.
