Firewood Day 2026

cord wood
I've seen quite a few cords of firewood in my day. I have limited experience sawing, however. So today is Firewood Day as well as World Wood Day. Thes days set aside the cultural, historical, and practical value of wood.

I recall my daddy buying a "Black Bart" wood stove which he insert into his fireplace. The thing would raise the temperature in the house markedly during the many runs it had during my late childhood and young adulthood.

Dad would also occupy himself with the accumulation of countless cords of firewood. There were massive walls of the stuff in all his sheds up til the day he died wherein my brother took it upon himself to steal it all for his personal use.

The traditional use of wood for heating, cooking, and crafting is often associated with those cozy, rustic aspects of wood in daily life. World Wood Day runs concurrently and recognizes wood as a shared human heritage — from early shelters and tools to modern architecture, music, and art.

Wood is a vital renewable resource. We should effort the preservatioin of it's value.
