Dwight Yoakam is talented

While Dwight Yoakam's main claim to fame is that of a musician, singer, and songwriter in the genres of country, country rock, honky-tonk, bluegrass the accolades he has received for this work has never really floated my boat. My fandom arose as the result of his acting and I must say he is just as talented in that regard as any of the music endeavors as well.

Dwight David Yoakam was born October 23, 1956 in Pikeville, Kentucky and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He grew into a musician who has been active in entertainment since 1980.

He has in excess of 20 charted albums and 30 singles to his credit. He has sold 30 or so million records, had 5 albums which attained number one on the Billboard charts, nine platinum and twelve gold albums including one which went triple platinum.

This is a lot of recording prowess.

Be all of this as it may it is his film career which has garnered my admiration with some of the televison a bit less so due to the type of entertainment endeavors the networks find presentable.

My first real encounter of his film work was the mean person named Doyle Hargraves in Sling Blade back in 1996. I thought the ending of this to be somewhat odd and a bit funny with the discussion of what needed to be done in followup to murder with a lawnmower blade. Then he played Raoul in Panic Room in 2002. Another mean guy portrayed to a tee. Then there was the Crank franchise where he played the physician to Chev Chellios named Doc Miles. He was hilarious in those.

On teevee he played himself on Hee Haw, one of my late daddy's favorite programs. He was also a musical guest on Saturday Night live. He also played Lane Pratley on King of the Hill and Lyle Chumley on Under the Dome and did a good job with each and every role.
