Death at the Burning Man Festival

Burning Man 2019
Burning Man is a counterculture experiment in community building out in the Nevada desert. It lasts a week and draws a wide variety of individuals with those festivities becoming a somewhat gritty sexualized mish mash.

It consists of various events including dances and socials with the entirety of those themes being personally expressive and many paint reality outside the lines particularly in matters of art, sexuality and social utility and those subtle realities of civil practicality.

The thing typically ends with the burning of a large wooden sculpture of a man ... hence the name.

One Shane Billingham was pronounced dead in the Black Rock Desert Thursday. Authorities determined his demise upon arrival and the cause of death remains suspicious at this time.

His body was transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office for post mortem examination. A memorial of sorts was erected at his Billingham's Burning Man camp Beats Boutique.

A makeshift altar was erected with tea candles and items he owned.

Given the wild and wooly nature of Burning Man on a typical day I am surprised that individuals don't succumb to exposure and a variety of problems associated with dehydration and general lack of facility provisions.

I once considered a visit but decided I would fry on the desert like a piece of bacon.
