Day of the Programmer 2026

    Programmer
So today we have the Day of the Programmer.

Celebrated on the 256th (2⁸) day of the year because it represents the values in an 8-bit byte as well as the highest power of two under 365.

In my day I have received thanks and accolades as a software developer, technical team member, Technical team lead, Subject Matter Expert, IT Manager, sharer of code snippets on the fly —and can be directly attributed to the success of various technical staff thoughout the country.

The day is nice but I no longer view any of the technical stuff about me as particularly pertinent anymore.

After all my days of Lisp and Prolog are long over and the pursuit of others for AI skills simply is beyond my scope these days. It is surprising just how many lack a casual understanding of the interconnections between markup, code, and relevant infrastructure in the big woke cistern we observe in the workplace.

I'm glad I no longer require participation in this feeble mess so just let me fritter on out and be done with it all !

Happy Day of the Programmer to you still out there wanting the fame, fortune and glamour.

I'm retired.
