Champagne Day 2026

I once partook of champagne at the drop of a hat.

I could go for a little snootfull ... or turn up entire bottles and stagger around then sleep in a profound slumber all night long.

Those days ended when I stopped all recreational drugs including alcohol.

Today is Champagne Day.

It is observed on the fourth Friday of October, falling on October 23, 2026 under the auspices of the Champagne Day Official Portal.

The day was created by wine blogger and educator from California, one Chris Oggenfus.

Under under AOC (Appellation d'Origine) rules, true Champagne can only come from the protected Champagne region of France.

This day is reserved for tastings and parings with food.

I have also noted that the more expensive brands sometime convey a slight bitterness not found in the less expensive varieties. I've always attributed it to some latent psychosomatic effect.

Dom Pérignon was once my go to brand. Yes, I thought I was high falutin. Now I just drink Iced Tea, No Sugar Ginger Ale, and water.

Nowadays I don't hanker for any champagne at all.
