Buford Hayse Pusser

Walking Tall Buford Pusser
The Walking Tall franchise was popular in the South of my youth.

I recall enjoying the movies and such because in that fantasy world which comprised the bulk of my existence at that time — it seems I was always searching for a hero.

Buford Hayse Pusser
December 12, 1937 – August 21, 1974

Sheriff of McNairy County, Tennessee, from 1964 to 1970.

He engaged in a one man war on prostitution, gambling, moonshining and other vices prevalent along the Mississippi–Tennessee state line at the expense of great personal injury and tragedy.

His work inspired several books, songs, movies, and a TV series.

He became a wrestler known as "Buford the Bull" in the deep South.
