Over the years I've seen a barbershop quartet or two perform. It is a group of four people who harmonize usually a cappella with a consonant four part chord progression for every melody they sing.
These events typically transpired during a variety show or something similar on broadcast television. Also, they were a more frequent encounter in my younger years compared to now ... and I must admit that Family Guy has been my most encountered venue for the contemporary barbershop quartet.
Anyway, though I've never really been a fan per se being a fan of striking harmony I will admit to various performances leaving me suitably impressed as true talent — and no, I'll not ever seek membership in a barbershop quartet for myself though I do indeed fancy myself a decent singer.
Today is Barbershop Quartet Day, set a side to make note of and appreciate the genre. Though it may be before your time as it's heyday indeed predates me I wish those who seek out this entertainment the very best.
There are far worse things than harmony and melody. Happy Barbershop Quartet Day to you !
