I'm not too big on the Civil War. AKA "The War Between the States" it was a tragic conflict where an ill equipped South attempted to do protracted battle with an industrialized North.
The results were a trouncing of the South by the North.
Today marks the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the Civil War when Lieutenant General Ulysses S Grant of the Union army accepted the surrender of General Robert E Lee of the Confederacy.
It was a dignified, civil affair at Appomattox Court House, Virginia resulting in the departure of combatants allowed to retain their weapons and horses and return home.
This ceremony ended the bloody four years of conflict that resulted in the loss of more than half a million people.
I hate to go off on a rant here, but being a Southern man I am not one to bring up the matter in casual conversation these days; but in times of uninformed idiots demanding reparations I say when the Phoenicians and the Egyptians pay reparations to the Jews then the matter can have serious consideration as far as I am concerned.
Also, I am not one to promote or apologize for slavery. I cannot be held responsible for the actions of others. What a group of utterly whiny ass ancestors of the captives of the Dutch sold to Americans we deal with here continuously thinking they are "owed" something.
This has resulted in stupid programs such as "affirmative action" where the less qualified were chosen over the more qualified due to race. This was the beginning of the dumbing down of the United States. The stupidification of the Republic as it were.
The democrats and progressives took care of the rest nicely.
Perhaps were history better studied the complainants would shut their ignorant mouths about reparations. People who do not fully understand a historical happening should either learn about it fully or remain silent.
The United States does not owe former slaves anything because of slavery. Just continue letting your black lives matter masters rip you off and buy multimillion dollar mansions under false pretenses.
