National Happy Hour Day 2024
Happy Hour

My watering hole days ended a while back.

Once upon a time I could be found at some bar downing various alcoholic concoctions, listening to music, and yapping with the other barflies. In the beginning I drank a lot of vodka, but by and large I was a 'gin and tonic' man.

There came a time when I felt the environment lacked sufficient stimulation of the correct type and I that needed to immerse myself in those things which made me more marketable in the work place.

It was about that time that I shunned the bars for overtime and became the proverbial "dull boy" created by all work and no play.

I will say that the rewards were subject to delayed gratification but now I'm sitting pretty with a pension and house that's almost paid for.

One of the things I engaged during my drinking days was happy hour. Typically in the 5-7 pm range — though they actually could vary from establishment to establishment it was a time to tie one on when I felt the inclination.

Happy hours are an evolution of those military types seeking altered consciousness after putting in a rough day. I'm told that they began with the US Navy so I certainly got my attraction to them honestly ... only to drop them when I became overpowered by career consciousness.

Today is National Happy Hour Day.

Nobody knows the actual beginning of the tradition but needless to say it remains available if you need to get schnockered. Unfortunately for me those days passed long ago.

Something about eating and living indoors made them become passe.

Veterans Day 2024
    Armed Service Emblems

Today is Veterans Day.

I am a veteran. This means I have served in the armed forces. I was honorably discharged at the end of my obligated time of service on June 10, 1979. I'm not especially proud of my service, but I did attempt to follow the rules and freely admit at this juncture that I should have been more 'gung ho'.

I know a lot of other veterans. Some of my best friends were shipmates during my hitch with the Navy. I am sorry to say that many of these have been lost to their passing.

Most recently were my best friend, Jerry Landry of Barnstable Massachusetts who had found his reason for being in the form of a high school teacher.

My very good friend, Clark Orwick — who was originally from Atlanta — but traveled extensively with 'Ded Bob' (he was the character's bearer, Smuj). He passed in Michigan in the midst of some Renaissance fair excursion which too had become his life and
calling with which he was very happy.

It began as Armistice Day and is a federal holiday in the United States observed each year on November 11 honoring our military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It now coincides with other holidays, including the aforementioned Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. These are commemorated in other countries, marking the anniversary of the end of World War I.

Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major US veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Veterans deserve our appreciation and respect for their sacrifices while protecting and serving our country.

Brittany Murphy Birthday in Heaven
Brittany Murphy
Back in my good ole 'King of the Hill' watching days —

Which so happened to correspond with some of the worse days of my entire career I was a fan of Brittany Murphy.

She voiced over the sometimes goofy animated character Luanne Platter on Fox's King of the Hill for the entirety of its run which begain in 1997 and ended in 2010.

Sometimes her character was over the top and emotionally labile. Her performances in the program were a particular favorite of mine nonetheless.

Brittany Anne Bertolotti Murphy-Monjack was born in Atlanta on November 10, 1977 and passed under circumstances characterized as "disputed" on December 20, 2009.

She was an American actress and singer, known for her work in comedy and drama.

She relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting hitting big as Tai Frasier in Clueless in 1995.

Brittany Murphy passed on December 20, 2009 at the age of 32. Those circumstance were disputed by family members.

Her death was ruled as the result of pneumonia made worse by anemia.

Hers was a risen star which shone brightly then dimmed all too soon.

Rest in peace Brittany Murphy and my dear Luanne Platter.

Chaos Never Dies Day 2024
    Chaos Never Dies
Entropy is always increasing and with it accompanying chaos. This condition of disorder and confusion renders all things to increasing disorder and/or confusion. That resulting jumble is that with which we may have to deal in our activities of daily living.

I learned long ago to tolerate the chaos because it was never going anywhere. I don't attempt to trivialize it nor make it a fun part of any proceedings ...

It's just part of that navigation I undergo though life.

Today is Chaos Never Dies Day. It a November 9th recognition of that disorder and confusion which will always accompany us as we see fit to allow it.

Nobody knows where the day came from; no those entities for which it is named.

The meaning of chaos is dependent upon the grasp with which you deal with it. I have been immersed in it to the point that I can filter it out as a matter of fact. My old friend the late Clarence Brockington "Chuck" Chapman was one who could filter out the chaos to take care of business regardless of when or where it arrived.

I seek to attain that same level of situational tweakability and self control.

If you can extract a little enjoyment out of the process then all the better.

Happy Chaos Never Dies Day !

National Dunce Day 2024
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are Dunces

Hey Hey Hey it's National Dunce Day. Just who are the two biggest dunces on the planet ?

The moronic word salad woman Kamala Harris and the totally dumbass Tim Walz who had the absolute audacity to think that the entire nation is as stupid as they are and would vote them into the highest office of our land. Must be due to his attraction to overly stupid women like the idiot he married. Smell those tires dumb bitch. Dream on bumpkins.

Today is National Dunce Day.

It is observed each November 8 annually and commemorates the passing of the Scottish philosopher, John Duns Scotus. His views got mixed reviews during his lifetime and culminate with his belief that cone-shaped hats increased learning potential.

This culminated in the creation of the "dunce cap" which ultimately became the symbol of everything the democrats typify:

Dumbness, stupidity, idiotic policy, attempting to rule the nation, monitizing office, and a failure to benefit from past mistakes.

Not much else is known about the dunce cap proper and I am certain that the two most deserving heads for them at this juncture are the principals of the failed Harris Walz-ticket ... unless, of course, it's those voters stupid enough to endorse, much less vote for them. Then cry about it after they failed to elect these bad ideas in the first place.

What a couple of dullards and their entourage of like minds.

Boo !

National Retinol Day 2024
Effaclar adaptalene gel

    Differin adaptalene gel
Back in the 1970s there was Retin A, a retinol (vitamin A) product I was given for acne vulgaris which was a liquid. It was a derivative of retinoic acid which was an earlier iteration in it's evolution.

Tretinoin, was originally a topical medication for skin disorders in 1958 and it gave rise to the more modern compounds we use presently.

The actual pharmaceutical preparation Retinol was found in 1909 then isolated in 1931 and finally synthesized in 1947 initially. Retin A was found to have other beneficial effects which weren't always documented until later in their evolution. It is helpful for problematic skin conditions such as those accompanying acne but it also does so much more.

Earlier forms caused skin irritation and sensitivity and nowadays, I use a similar product called Adaptalene gel which is also a vitamin A derivative. I have two brands I normally buy depending on availability. They too can be initially sensitizing and irritating. I found all that passed in due time and it has improved my skin after that period.

Today is National Retinol Day.

Since October 25, 2021 it is held each November 7 under the asupices of RoC Skincare.

These products change the way the skin grows and prevent a lot of aging symptomatology which is likely why every one tells me I appear younger than I am.

So if you have problematic skin the Retinol derivatives such as adaptalene gel may help you as much as it's helped me.

It won't hurt to try them as long as you can weather those possible initial side effects which are far milder than those posessed by other topicals on the market today. You may not experience any sensitivity or irritation caused reddening.

Happy National Retinol Day to you.

Obama Day in Kenya 2024
noose

Barry and Big Mike the tranny Obama
noose

Barack Obama Day refers to two days of recognition in the United States in honor of Barack Obama, the lying nasty pervert negro who was mistakenly elected as 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017 by the stupid libtard voters of the country.

So he took his tranny wife as first ladyboy to the white house and sullied the nation's repuation with their nasty made in hell relationship. Likely the only so-called "president" married to a chick with a dick. It still circulates in society and runs the democrat party behind the scenes. I wonder how often it gets Barack's shit on it's dick.

It all began when the nasty turds in Illinois elected him to the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Those morons celebrate this pervert's birthday on August 4 annually when they should be dancing around his and his nasty pervert man wife Big Mike's graves.

☠ To Hell with Kenya.
☠ To Hell with Illinois.
☠ To Hell with Barack Obama the pervert.
☠ To Hell with his male wife Big Mike Obama the other pervert.

Nasty human beings who should not be allowed here.

Use Your Common Sense Day 2024
    common sense
"Common" sense is a propensity for sound judgment which is not based on education or knowledge.

Instead, it is an internal sense and was once thought to be the basis for the other five senses to be understood and interpreted.

Common sense may be characterized as ordinary sensible understanding secondary to a persons basic intelligence allowing for understanding and without which good decisions or judgments become quite remote, as evidence by the dullard proponents of the democratic party and other leftist ideologue and other abominations upon the land.

In elementary school I learned about the Thomas Paine pamphlet from the pre-revolutionary war days January 10, 1776 advocating the fight for independence.

It was a persuasive document because those reading it could comprehend both it's meaning and consequences.

I fear that the people nowadays have lost that innate sensibility we once had because since the 1980s we have raised successive generations of burger flippers by stupid people who should have been prevented from reproducing.

These unsuitable, unsatisfactory, and unqualifed individuals are supported in their efforts by the democrats who want you to be totally dependent on governent and assume a position of infantile helplessness otherwise.

These people who practice "rules for thee but not for me" rationales and the idiotic democrat slant on turning all things in government evil with absolutely nothing good has me wondering just where the stupidity began to leak into society to such a pervasive degree.

Today is Use Your Common Sense Day. It is the birthday of Will Rogers who was a big proponent of not being stupid just because it's easy. René Descartes the French philosopher, scientist, and mathematician qualified the most common modern meaning stating that "everyone has a similar and sufficient amount of common sense, but it is rarely used well".

It happens each November 4. It is a time to recognize the fact that we are not supposed to be a population of blithering idiots even though many stupid crayola red, green, and blue haired individuals can't operate otherwise.

Common Sense Day was first observed in 2015 is the brainchild of one Bud Bilanich who is a blogger, author of 19 books, mentor, and motivational speaker. He is a televison star who concentrates on living a successful life and has been featured in magazines.

I did not always practice a lot of common sense in my interactions with others and personal endeavors. I'm happy to say that I have been much happier and more successful when I cast off the status quo behaviors of following the herds stepping on turds.

Common Sense is something to be cultivated and utilized. Consideration of actions and conseqences are a large part of the key to successful living.

DST Ended at 2 am
2 am
Spring ahead, Fall back

Yes boys and girls ... time to "Fall Back" and assume Eastern Standard Time in lieu of the ending Daylight Savings Time.

Despite the push by some states to end the time changes, we are still immersed in the convention.

Since 1966 daylight saving time begins on March 10.

At this time we turn our clocks forward one hour.

Daylight saving ended on November 3rd at 2 am.

Thusly, we turn the clocks back one hour to be compliant with Eastern Standard Time.

So this means the day will entail going around the properties and setting those clocks which do not automatically handle the time change, and yes there are a few in my household.

We will also regain that hour we lost going into Daylight Savings Time last spring.

Remembering J D Souther
    J D Souther
When I was a kid I listened to the Souther-Hillman-Furray band because it suited my then country flavored musical tastes.

It was lead by J D Souther, the songwriters Hall of Fame inductee who had hit collaborations with Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Dan Fogleberg, Don Henley, Christopher Cross, the Eagles, Roy Orbison, and Linda Ronstadt.

I'd like to state here that I'm not a fan of 'hits' as it were.

I prefer "non-hit" versions of standards and music you don't encounter in some dull and commonplace top 40 survey.

I reject the entire notion of musical "good hits" because I don't feel there is any such thing.

Patooey !

John David Souther was born November 2, 1945 and passed September 17, 2024.

He was on the crux of an imminent tour with Karla Bonoff on September 24 in Phoenix, when he passed peacefully at home in New Mexico.

He had a brief acting career and appeared on TV and in movies.

His was a long and productive life with recognition and admiration by his fans and that of other performers with whom he collaborated.

Rest in Peace.

National Family Literacy Day 2024
books

One of those things which constitute who I am came from my mother.

We both have a love of books and have been known to immerse ourselves in reading.

She does it primarily as a pleasurable pursuit.

I do it to attain knowledge of various aspects of a technological career path. It has been less of a priority in these my retirement years, but I still engage a book or two every now and then.

Regardless, we both remain readers.

Today is National Family Literacy Day.

It happens each November 1 since 1994 under the auspices of Congressional Joint Resolution 413 and encourages families to read together.

Vocabulary skills and an understanding of various topical data are not the only things it provides.

Anything done collectively as a family also provides for that bonding essential for self esteem and feeling you belong.

National Family Literacy Day support literacy programs nationwide.

It promotes the widening of cultural horizons and brings family members closer by sharing.
