Speaking of the Dead
Mom says you're not to speak ill of the dead. We have discussions of this nature when I am contrary to something she considers to be of importance. Sometimes speaking ill of the dead is ALL I want to do.

When they pass from the earth hopelessly succumbing to some terminal illness or tragic accident those memories of how they treated me were all I can think of with their death.

"Speaking ill of the dead" refers to stating negative comments or similar judgments about someone who has passed this earth. Some say it is disrespectful to speak ill of the dead.

I say there are exceptions and varying perspectives regarding the separation of good people and dirtbags. I am told I should have respect for the dead. Derogatory comments are supposedly disrespectful to the person who has passed as well as their grieving loved ones.

Dead people are unable to defend themselves making mischaracterization more likely in the absence of counterpoints. I am told that I should have compassion for the bereaved. I do. I cannot help if their dearly departed was a scoundrel. I do not feel it necessary to overlook this fact either.

I don't request any special consideration for myself after I pass. Feel free to badmouth me all you like.

casket with Joe Black
I am told to focus on the good. What if there is NOTHING good you can see regarding the departed individual?

In essence, that decision of whether or not to speak ill of the dead is dependent on circumstances which are disparate across the masses and cohorts of those alive and dead.

There are specific circumstances and motivations to take into consideration. It is quite possible that the appropriateness is relative to the position the departed held in the life of the remaining. Some of us prefer to let the vitriol be said for healing, marking the truth in the annals of history, or addressing injustice.

So if you're offended that I have no respect for your dearly departed just remember I could give a rip what you think about the matter. My attitude was forced on me and was never a choice.

The fact that he or she may be YOUR dearly departed is an irrelevant complication. It's totally between the departed and I. Others witnessing whatever transpires are collateral considerations, not prime ones.

Global Pay It Forward Day 2025
Haley Joel Osment in Pay it Forward
I've always tried to do good works in my lifetime.

I haven't always succeeded. Indeed some of my best efforts went astray to no end of trouble for me and I regretted the attempt after enough chagrin had transpired.

Today is a day about repaying the good deeds done for you.

I have had a number of them and I certainly owe for the help they afforded me.

It is Global Pay It Forward Day, a day to pay back kindness bestowed upon you.

It happens each April 28 and encourages random acts of kindness as payment for some of those kind moments we have had in the past.

The day is based on the book "Pay It Forward" by American novelist Catherine Ryan Hyde which became a film in 2000 starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Jim Caviezel, and Haley Joel Osment among others.

The movie is a real tear jerker at the end but the idea is sound and good advice for the citizen of the world who wishes to contribute.

Happy Global Pay It Forward Day and I hope you can repay some of those kind events shared with you.

World Design Day 2025
wireframe globe
I once envisioned myself a pillar of artistic design.

That evolution was enhanced by the fact that I learned to make Photoshop walk the dog over the years — and it really has augmented my career with both web and print graphic availability that might not be otherwise ...

Given the fact that a lot of my peers were somewhat "less artistic" than I might like it came in handy to be able to create a miracle on demand for my cohort when interacting with the so-called "higher ups".

I am fairly sure this was one aspect of me they missed when they finished running me off.

Today is World Design Day.

It is an annual ocurrence each April 27.

It supports designs and designers internationally and emphasizes that impact they have on the people and their everyday choices.

That ambiguity which is part and parcel of the design process and a "brilliant" design is something for which I always aspired yet rarely attained.

The day is meant for designers to aim for designs which inspire and create well being on the planet.

The underlying goal is meeting those needs of families, friends, and local convention.

Happy World Design Day.

Alien Day 2025
    xenomorph queen
I was a fan of the alien franchise early on — those flicks by Ridley Scott representing weak earthlings against the xenomorphs of LV-426, aka Acheron which is a satellite of the gas giant star designated Calpamos located in the Zeta 2 Reticuli system some 39 light years from Earth.

I simply enjoyed their predatory nature and the modeling did nothing but improve exponentially over the ensuing years with their prequels and sequels — and oh I just love a good vicious monster in the mix.

Today is Alien Day.

It is observed each April 26 under the auspices of 20th Century Fox, which is the production company and is a celebration of not only the Alien franchise but science fiction in general.
Ellen Ripley

The day was derived because it is a subset of the name of the planet from which the xenomorphs were first encountered.

So as we travel down the pipe 5 x 5 I hope you'll take a moment to appreciate just what may be out there awaiting us in space.

Learn to drive that loader in case you need to do battle with some bitchy life threatening queen xenomorph in your lifetime.

Happy Alien Day and may the spirit of Ellen Ripley be with you.

Scream Day 2025
scream
Sometimes society will turn you into a seething mess of anxiety and various pressures which are due to having to hustle and seek some channel of release.

Today is Scream Day.

It is observed each April 24 and is a formulation on the notion that the primal scream brings for calm to the rage monster within us all.

I have attempted to scream of late but I'm afraid that losing my falsetto years back has made those rather feeble and so I don't attempt much screaming these days.

However, in a younger day I could and did !

The venting and releasing of personal tension requires other avenues for me personally these days.

I hope you can get out there and scream ... some blood curdling ear hurting vocalization to get out that which is inside.

It is not bad behavior to scream for the release of various pent up mess you may be carrying around.

However, one should choose their venue prior to any primal scream attempt.

It's the only way to be sure you won't generate misinterpreted impressions among your cohorts.

Happy Scream Day to you.

National Take A Chance Day 2025
clover border

    lottery logos
I take a chance most every day except Thursday. I play both the Megamillions and Powerball lotteries most days. At 20 bucks a pop it's rather expensive, too.

Today is National Take a Chance Day.

It happens each April 23 to instill the idea that not taking a risk may be the riskiest of all possible outcomes.

The origins of the day are obscure but it promotes gambling and the taking of opportunities you might not otherwise indulge.

It does not necessarily promote the lottery or gambling per se but promotes that leap of faith it takes to rely on luck in anything which may come up.

So I'm still waiting for lightning to strike. I still await that elusive lottery jackpot. I am told by various significant others that I'm wasting my time that I will never win big.

Thus far the naysayers are correct. All I can do is hope.

Happy National Take a Chance Day and I hope you win. One of us needs to.

In God We Trust Day 2025
reverse side of the US one dollar bill
In God We Trust is the motto of the United States of America and is seen on our currency, some car license plates, our government buildings, some documents, and is even known to be tattooed on various people’s bodies.

There have been concerted efforts to remove In God We Trust from several places, however, the faith-based motto has remained relevant for centuries.

This is due to the strong Christian influence prevalent in the United States since it's inception.

Today is In God We Trust Day.

It is observed each April 22, came about as a result of a law that the US Congress passed to effect the inscription of the same phrase on US coins.

On April 22, 1864, the United States Congress passed an act allowing for ‘In God We Trust’ to begin appearing on US coins.
    US Flag

From 1864 until 1938 it appeared on various US coins, each for a different duration.

It has appeared on the penny since 1909, the dime since 1916, and on all gold coins, silver dollars, half dollars, and quarter-dollar coins since 1908.

In the United States the phrase is more than a motto, it is a tenet and conviction of a large segment of the population.

God bless America.

National Surprise Drug Test Day 2025
drug pee test
I remember the era of workplace drug testing.

They would pick a random employee or two and send them to a facility to pee in a cup.

The results would decide if their employment would continue or not. I saw many get fired as the result of these proceedings.

I certainly complied — I was totally recreational drug free a long time awaiting just such occasions.

Nowadays the procedure is typically saved "for cause" and personally, you would be greeted somewhat less genially by me personally I dare say. I've had several higher paying jobs which did not force drug tests on the employee.

Nowadays, retirement poses no such situational anxiety for me to ponder so I suppose it's a moot point.

Today is National Surprise Drug Test Day.

It is held each April 21 and has it's roots in cannabis in the workplace but has expanded to other drugs over time.

So the insurance break these people get for this survelliance is minimal and the control factor — which was what it appeared to be mostly about — makes me want to kill the fat stinky tiny pecker red tard who made them a requirement in my life.

Fuck National Surprise Drug Test Day. Just who do you think you are ?

He is Risen 2025
He is risen

Today we commemorate the raising from the dead of our Lord Yeshua the Christ. Jesus defeated death that we might also.

In the pale reality of denial by non-believers we who do hold these truths have something for which to look forward in the eternity.

I try to remember my place in the Christian schemata because I can do all things that YHWH, the one true God whose name is "I Am" permits.

Knowledge is power.

Book of Matthew

28:1   In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
28:2   And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
28:3   His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
28:4   And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
28:5   And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
28:6   He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
28:7   And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
28:8   And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
28:9   And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
28:10   Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

Humorous Day 2025
    guffaw
I used to find humor in most things. Nowadays I am less subject to this notion. Something about the realities of daily living have squeezed every drop of humor out of me lately.

Today is Humorous Day.

It is observed each April 19 annually and proposes that we find humor in those situations we encounter without consideration of the difficulties which may accompany it.

The origins of the day are somewhat obscure but largely attributed to The Carmel Institute of Humor’s director Larry Wilde. He first declared April to be Humor Month in 1976.

I suppose it may have something to do with April Fools Day ... or not.

It is said that laughter reduces stress and causes the release of endorphins which are pain killers manufactured by our own bodies.

The act causes deeper breathing and releases physical tension with a boost in the heart rate and concurrent lowering of the blood pressure.

Laughter is also said to affect the functioning of T lymphocytes favorably and they enable an enhanced immune system.

The act is also supposed to improve conversation quality and manage adverse emotional responses.

So I suppose it really couldn't hurt to get out there and laugh at something in the name of self improvement every now and then now could it ?

International Jugglers Day 2025
juggle

I've known a few jugglers in my day. They all were men. They were also insufferable dicks with egos that could span the cosmos.

I think there is some inherent braggadocio and antisocial behavior which goes with the skill which makes their company less than desirable for some of we reserved types ...

Today is International Juggler’s Day.

It is observed annually on April 18 since the mid 1980s under the auspices of the International Jugglers Association to celebrate all of the insufferable dicks you know who also juggle.

Seriously, the day honors the art of juggling and those many who practice the art.

Some juggle balls. Some juggle bottles. Others juggle flame. Some even juggle chain saws, knives, and other various dangers.

Juggling became more respected sometime after the middle ages likely due to it's incorporation by jesters and such who have always been shown less esteem than those who practice other skills in public.

Regardless, if you juggle then this is your day. Despite my disdain for jugglers in general — happy International Juggler’s Day to you.

2A Day 2025
    the handgun I carry

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Second Amendment
United States Constitution

The second ammendment to the US Constitution is a biggie from a standpoint of the rights of people. Today that ammendment is celebrated with a national holiday in recognition that foresight involved in the rights of the American People despite the efforts of the democrats to curtail them. Americans’ right to own and carry firearms is protected under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. On December 15, 1791, the Second Amendment and the other nine Bill of Rights provisions were passed. The Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) that non-military people had the right to have arms in their homes for self-defense.

The opponents of the second ammendment, including the moron little old ladies and pussified stupid democrats and other lesser forms of life as well as SCOTUS beware:

Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2025
homeless female youth
Back in November of 1976 when I was in electrical school at Great Lakes, Illinois we took a number of road trips to Chicago 30 miles to the South.

One of our trips found us at an intermediate rest area gaining relief from a night of imbibing and we encountered a young lady who was homeless and hanging out to escape the frigid winds blowing full force outside.

Fred Wozniak, with whom I was travelling in his VW Bug, had a few gentle words with her and handed her a little cash before we departed. The thing that I have always remembered since that day was her sad eyes and look of dejection.

It was gut wrenching to see another so in need of those creature comforts I had never been without a day in my life.

Today is Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

It is primarily an Australian observance held on the third Wednesday in April — which makes it April 16 this year. However, the problem is international and includes the United States.

The crux of the day is raising awareness and public discussion of homeless young people in an attempt to provide solutions which work and may be maintained.

Domestic and family violence weighs heavily in these matters and as such make the considerations a priority.

So while the shelters hide many the streets display many others for the world to see. The streets of Los Angeles, New York, and other democrat strongholds are populated with many homeless.

Don't get me wrong, there are some who actually pursue the homeless lifestyle. All too many others seek respite and the comfort and caring of a household.

So in this day of homeless youth I hope you'll take pause and remember that young girl I saw briefly on the road near Great Lakes that cold and windy night.

The youth homeless are an international problem with complex and varied solution requirements.
