World Piano Day 2024
Korg D1

I dabble at the piano periodically. I have been asked many times about how long I have been playing. To this I admit that I don't "play" and that I've had no formal lessons.

I suppose that which I do at the keyboard could be called "tone poems" or "faking".

I had a Roland A90 Ex which I gave to my niece because I lost respect for the man who sold it to me. These days I no longer sport an instrument in my living room as I did for so many years.

Today is World Piano Day, celebrated appropriately enough on the 88th day of the year which correpsonds to the number of keys on a full size keyboard. It is held under the auspices of one Nils Frahm a pianist of German extraction and composer who started it all back in 2015.

It is a celebration of pianos, music, musicians, and all who indulge this, my most favorite instrument.

So regardless if you play or not the day is for you to enjoy the piano and all it has to offer.

Manatee Appreciation Day 2024
manatee
The manatee is a herbivore marine mammal indigenous to the warmer coastal and intercoastal waterways.

I have seen many of them on the gulf side of Florida and even witnessed the arrest and placing into custody some of those persons who thought they were supposed to be able to jump on them and restrict their movements.

Harassing a manatee now carries more stiff penalties and I think it's a good thing.

These gentle giants of the still waters will sometimes congregate around humans when they do not feel threatened.

I know that I have been accompanied by an aggregation of them back in my younger, more adventurous post Navy days.

Today is Manatee Appreciation Day.

It is held under the auspices of the Save the Manatee Club which was founded in 1981 by songwriter Jimmy Buffet and former US senator Bob Graham.

It happens on the last Wednesday of March — which falls on March 27 this year.

It is a vehicle for raisinng awareness of the endangered manatees, aka 'sea cow' as they continue to fall victim to pollution, diminishing habitat, the destruction of nesting areas, and even hunting if you can fathom such a thing.

They run in 1,200 pound range and gain such massive bulk by consuming seagrass. Their only predators are human beings. I cannot count the boat propeller injuries I have seen them suffer. If you ever hear a nearby manatee cry out in pain you will never want them to be hurt again. Human activites maim and kill these gentle harmless creatures to excess.

I hope the future is kind to the entire species.

Wear a Hat Day 2024
Wear a Hat Day
Never was much of a hat person. I have a Vietnam era boonie hat I wear on the tractor while cutting grass but that's about it.

I keep a hat frequently worn by my late father's on his deer antler rack in my living room. I do so in rememberance of him.

I believe the requirements for wearing hats in the Navy may have corrupted my attitude towards wearing head gear overall. There are rare instances when I will wear one but usually my bald head goes glistening in the breeze. I try not to fret over it all, however.

Today is Wear A Hat Day.

It is observed each March 26 as a vehicle to raise awarenness and funds for the field of brain tumor research.

I really cannot knock a hat for filling this role in the public domain. I always attempt to give money to good causes and I certainly would contribute to this one should the need arise. Those funds generated by Wear a Hat Day have resulted in advances in chemotherapy and radiation therapy such as Gamma Knife radiosurgery with subsequent increases in the survival rates for those with this terrible affectation. Newer improved modalities like computed tomography have made the fight more accurate from a standpoint of diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

There is no real prevention for brain tumors in patients. All we may really do is discuss the condition, contribute fundage, engage in experimenntal treatmentns and test trials then hope for an eventual cure.

Tolkien Reading Day 2024
JRR Tolkein
So here we have yet another Tolkien Reading Day and it's accompanying excuse for me to whine about how much I hate Tolkein and his entire bibliography.

It was disturbing when I gathered in my research that hate of Tolkein is primarily a function of the leftist libtards, of which I am NOT one.

My dislike for Tolken has to do with his uppity introduction to me in high school whereby I bought The Hobbit in order to give it a read.

There I encountered a preface whining about plagiarism and the utter nonsense of the inclusion caused me to rip my copy down the spine in several places then deposit those segments in different trash cans across the campus of Wagener-Salley High School.

Suffice it to say that I still detest Tolkein and believe him to be a turd among authors and his rendition of Middle Earth so much garbage for disposal.

Harsh ? Perhaps, but this is how it goes down when my impression of you is that of excrement.

Palm Sunday 2024
    Palm Sunday
Today is Palm Sunday.

It is a Christian observance commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey.

He was greeted by masses of cheering crowds waving palm branches which were then set on the ground along his path as stated in scripture.

It is also called Passion Sunday, marks the week prior to His resurrection, and is also the beginning of Holy Week.

Palm Sunday varies by date annually as do Easter and much of the events of Holy Week. This year it falls on March 24.

This is the most sacred week in the Christian year and includes the Good Friday which was the crucifixion and death of Christ with His subsequent resurrection on the third day.

It is a day of symbolism and remembrance for we, the adherents of the One True God and his Son, Yeshua the Christ.

It is a happy time for me in my spirtuality and wishes for the future ... which in my case hopefully includes the eternity.

Atheist Day 2024
Young Sheldon
I am a Christian man. I have had a very profane life and all I can do is hope for forgiveness when all is said and done.

When I was younger I had a spate of atheism whereby I said there was no God and it was all a smug existence for someone as haughty as I was.

You will find as you age that the haughtiness wanes as you hunger for something to believe in while suffering the presence of the totally unscrupulous and immoral democrats such as Fani Willis and Letitia James who have absolutely no vestige of good of character in their entire nasty black beings in keeping with the democrat's never ending mission to control the world and make you submit to the poverty and bankrupt existence of the retard New World Order under the control of their self appointed absolutism.

I find I'd just as soon go down shooting if you don't mind. Going out in a blaze of glory is infinitely more acceptable to me than a life of putting up with criminals like Letitia James and Fani Willis or that puny serfdom to the creepy WEF and their self ascribed would be ruler of the world Klaus Schwab.

Today is Atheist Day.

It is observed each March 23 annually and it's focus is those who do not believe in God. The term has been in use for some 400+ years and describes those who decline to believe in a higher power, a creator, the one True God whose name is "I am" and not "I was" nor "I might be".

Contrast this with the agnostic, or those who believe that it is impossible to know whether there is a God; or those who are skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism; or the "light loads" who are doubtful or noncommittal about God and religion.

While firmly rooted in science hence my rejection of transsexuals and their idiotic rantings regarding "how they identify" and their stupid "preferred pronouns" which are neither logical nor reality. I am personally ready and prepared to exterminate them all as the vermin that they present themselves as being.

I never claimed to be "perfect" myself. Only "forgiven". I'm NOT going to be subject to the stupid whims of dullards just because it happens to be in vogue and supported by an evil group like the democrats.

Happy Atheist Day.

Daffodil Day 2024
    daffodils

One of my earliest forays into poetry was Bullwinkle the Moose reciting Daffodils by William Wordsworth. I was but a child but it struck me as quite the artistic endeavor and over the years I have never felt that Rocky and Bullwinkle were ever given adequate recognition for their significant contributions to comedy and the arts in general.

Today begins Daffodil Days. They are held in March as a vehicle to raise funds and awareness for cancer under the auspices of the Canadian Cancer Society. The daffodil is a very cheery flower and I have loved to see them planted along roadways and sidewalks since those childhood days of Bullwinkle.

The daffodil has served as a symbol of hope and resilience for those who must cope with the ravages of cancer since the 1950s. The bloom represents the work done by researchers and physicians working toward cures and improvement of treatment modalities.

It is disturbing to note that in my reading the cures are being suppressed by big pharma in favor of continuous treatments because they generate an uninterrupted revenue stream. Much like the stupidity of Eisenhower who declined energy technology from the Nordics opting instead for the disasterous Greada Treaty with the Zeta Reticulans aka "gray aliens". He left us to the whims of the fossil fuel and other energy companies and allowed extraterestrials to kidnap and experiment upon us. Can you say Dulce Base boys and girls ?

What stupidity in governnment we must continually suffer. From Dick Durbin and his credit card company exploits to the general criminality of the Biden family. To think we must continue to put up with the Biden administration in light of what has been proven and on top of everything else.

So yes, the daffodil offers hope. Sometimes I think dying of cancer would be far better than living in a world run by the democrats.

Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

National Aries Day 2024
bighorn ram
Today is National Aries Day.

It is a celebration of the first of those 12 astrological signs into which many of us place great store regarding the human characteristics allegedly associated thereto.

Aries is named for a constellation and has been in use since the time of ancient Greek astrology.

It is portrayed by the symbol of the ram and this imparts those born under the sign between March 21 annd April 19 which is the reason why we who fall under this sign are said to be impulsive and energetic.

Yes, I am an aries though I don't place nearly the store into that association as many who are known to me.

It seems that we are called Arians or Ariens. We are also said to be associated with the color red because of our ruling planet, Mars.

People celebrate this holiday by hitting the horoscopes and sharing on social media.

I, for one, decline to participate. Like I said, I don't place a lot of store in astrology, horoscopes or those weirdos who do.

Sorry to be such a party pooper but Astrology lost a lot of credibility for me long ago.

World Frog Day 2024
    Bullfrog
Frogs are amphibians once common to my area. I'm afraid I don't see too many of them anymore. I feel that their habitat has been encroached upon excessively by we people seeking dominion over the entirety of the Earth as though we were the only things upon it which matter.

Today is World Frog Day. Since 2003, it is meant to provide awareness regarding these living beings and provide them with a safer environment in which to hopefully thrive. It is observed each March 20 annually, coinciding appropriately enough with the spring equinox — which arrived last night at 11:06 pm and ostensibly marks the beginning of amphibian season in the wetlands.

Frogs are both predators and prey in the animal world. They are also sentinel animals which indicate problems in the environment such as chemical pollution. If you see a lot of misshapen frogs with duplicated or malformed limbs in your area you may wish to pursue those pollutants responsible.

Much like the town of Gaston ran off Nassau Recycle Corporation when it became evident that they were out to pollute the ground water in that area with lead. My history with the toads and frogs of the area could likewise have been better. When I was a young man I declined to provide safety for those creatures smaller than I was. My cruelty became the stuff of legend in my own mind. Now I am much more aware of these creatures and go out of my way to save them from traffic and other hazards.

I hope you have a happy World Frog Day and try to remember that we are not the only inhabitants of the Earth. I am ashamed to have forgotten this in my youth.

Hell NO we ain't fergettin !
I recently had a visiting house guest who got bent out of shape over my Confederate Battle Flag wallpaper.

Actually, I don't know whether she was unhappy about the Confederate Flag symbology or the fact that I wasn't fazed by her constant complaints and admonitions that it should be removed.

She repeatedly asked that I take it down and I respectfully declined each time.

She then requested access to my machine and given the previous events and her demeanor I declined that as well. She requested her own account on my machine and I declined that too for the same reasons.

Daves Confederate Battleflag Desktop

I was left with the feeling that she might try to enact some rage inspired software damage to my disk image to 'teach me a lesson' because of her rather suspicious approach. The fact that a regular user account can't do much of anything outside it's own profile was neither here nor there. This was a matter of technical integrity as it pertains to comportment in the presence of others and their equipment.

It would seem that if my machine wasn't good enough you should have brought your own PRIOR to making yourself appear to have some ulterior motive for gaining creditials to some workstation which is not yours.

She wanted access to my WIFI for her phone and I declined that as well. I told her she could access the internet all she wished through her cell vendor's free data plan. I don't do TikToc and this is what she was all about. This seemed to trigger her yet again. Projecting a sense integrity up front may be more efficacious in the end when you seek privileged access to a private network even though it may have 16,382 individual addresses available — and NO even though it didn't come up setting up a guest network was likewise out of the question.

So she left and I was pondering the events of the day and collecting my thoughts regarding the access of my network by others. Needless to say, after her abrupt departure in a huff I don't think we continue to be the close friends we once were.

All I can say is your technology is yours and my technology is mine and how you comport yourself when you want access to mine matters. Especially when you are utterly compelled to come off as that huffy ill-mannered manipulative democrat that you are.

Act Happy Day 2024
Happy Baby
Sometimes happiness is indeed just an act devised by those who don't keep their heart on a string.

We may have highs and lows in life but by and large many will choose to conceal those lows as required and indeed I respect someone who does not allow their emotions to control them.

Today is Act Happy Day.

It is an annual observance celebrated eacg third Monday of March so this year it comes on March 18.

It came about as the 2004 brain child of one Dr Dale Anderson, a surgeon with the Mayo Clinic.

He believed that simply acting happy
— even when one did not feel happy —
could bring a positive change in life.

So in the name of attitude and all those beneficial effects a good one may impart to the body and soul I wish you a felicitous Act Happy Day.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig 2024
    four leaf clover cross
I recall from my childhood the various St Patrick Days in which I participated. There were a few in which I failed to don some garment or accessory of green and got pinched. All in all though I never really looked forward to the day I did always enjoy it when it arrived during my elementary school years spread across Mare Island at Vallejo, California, Blackfoot, Idaho, Aragona Village at Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Hanahan, South Carolina in the years 1961 through 1967.

Today is Saint Patrick's Day aka the Feast of Saint Patrick.

As is my custom, I have selected the four leaf clover motif — because I have always associated it with both the Irish and Saint Patrick's Day.

Saint Patrick's Day is a religious and cultural holiday held on March 17 which corresponds to the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c 385 – c 461) who, as it would turn out is the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

The day is locally celebrated in entertainment districts nearby my place of residence. The celebrations were held on Saturday which was obviously felt to be more appropriate given the Bible belt locale in which we live.

Those venues featured everything from all manner of food and refreshments, green beer, water fountains dyed green, to green hair coloration and the absolutely required green attire. Of course the local news outlets followed the festivities closely.

Many friends of Irish ancestry take the day to heart passionately and I have always enjoyed this about them.

Though I wasn't in attendance at the St Patrick's Day celebration at Five Points in Columbia SC Saturday, I wish those participants well and hope they had a smashing time.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day even if you celebrated yesterday !

Freedom of Information Day 2024
Since 1967, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has provided the public the right to request access to records from any federal agency. It is often described as the law that keeps citizens in the know about their government. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement.

foia.gov
foia
Freedom of Information Day is an observance of laws which require governmental agencies to provide information they have regarding the specifics of their activities to those who file the requisite paperwork.

Nowadays some places like dirtbag incorporated municipalities charge exorbitant fees in an effort to quash your legal rights. I personally feel that charging thousands of dollars for copies of documents to be intentional intent to keep you from the information instead of reasonable recovery of expenses.

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was passed on July 4, 1966, and became active the next year. It states that an individual can demand the information they want by requesting it, and this information is provided free of cost or with a minimal fee.

Good luck with that.

The date was chosen as James Madison’s birthday. He was the fourth President of the US and was born on March 16, 1751. He is said to be the “Father of the US Constitution” and drafted then promoted both the US Constitution and associated Bill of Rights.

Like I said, you may have the rights but others will attempt to adversely impact your attempts to exercise your rights. It may be that the information has conveniently been "lost" or other schemes to keep the data from you.

Privacy sometimes becomes very expensive to maintain in the world of government, it's employees, and documents.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence 2024
    stop bullying
In my life I have experienced violence and bullies and those who would attempt dominance of me via fisticuffs.

Well, I must say that this has left me liking the 'rough stuff' because I for one and not one to back down from a confrontation and if I'm packing you take your life into you own hands.

It will never be me to pick a fight or ridicule others in some misbegotton attempt to "look cool" or squash another's arrogance.

I prefer a low key approach as long as you keep your hands to yourself and your idiot mouth closed to me.

What you do to others is between you and them unless you cross family or friendship boundaries.

Today is National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. It's observed in Australia on the on the third Friday in March annually.

Addressing and preventing bullying is an admirable pursuit.

I dare say that stopping before acting or shooting off the mouth can go along way toward keeping you off a trauma ward or out of a reconstructive dentist's chair.

Don't bully others. You won't have much in the way of sympathy when it all goes wrong and it most certainly may.

Happy National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.
