On February 6, 1952 George VI, King of Great Britain who was suffering from the sequela of a lifetime of smoking, died from coronary thrombosis in his sleep at Sandringham House in Norfolk, at the age of 56. His daughter Elizabeth, heiress presumptive who had assumed an increasing number of state duties in his stead, flew back to Britain from Kenya, as Queen Elizabeth II. |
