Blue Moon for New Years Eve …

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Tomorrow is New Years Eve and to mark the occasion, the cosmos will provide the first ‘blue moon’ of any brillance in 20 years.

The second full moon of the month is commonly known as a blue moon.

Though not actually colored blue as the name implies, the rarity of two full moons in a single month is where the phrase “once in a blue moon” is derived.

Truly a special time for celebration, a blue moon last appeared on New Year’s Eve in 1990 — the next will happen in 2028. Get on out there and howl tomorrow night !
