A few months back I was speaking with one of the city officials regarding rumors that a Costco was coming to the area -- and was told this was the case.
Yesterday I learned that the project is not moving forward.
It seems that the local infrastructure is unsatisfactory and the developer would have been required to make those improvements according to the local Department of Transportation. It seems that the county provides for tax breaks for manufacturing but not retail concerns.
My issues with this matter involve competition and having something besides a crappy old rude ass Sam's Club from which to buy bulk size items ... which I use and enjoy.
Alas, Charleston, Greenville, Spartanburg, and Myrtle Beach will have a Costco while we will remain lacking a rival warehouse retail operation to compete with Sam's Club.
Perhaps I'll just start taking a trip to the coast every now and then ...
The entire problem with Walmart, Sam's Club, and all of those Bentonville, Arkansas concerns revolve around the departure of everybody else making the local retail customer their bitch.
When Sam Walton promised "Made in the USA" he probably didn't understand that he would eventually die and his store would become the zero quality puppet of China his heirs allowed it to become.
So bitches, I hope you're happy.
